Notice of Discharge of Untreated Sewage
At approximately 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, ONWASA became aware of a possible sewer spill. ONWASA crews were immediately dispatched to the area and began recovery efforts.
It was determined that due to an electrical malfunction in the control panel an estimated 16,500 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a tributary of Halls Creek from the Halls Creek Pumping Station located at 1304 Hammocks Beach Road.
The spill has been reported to the State of North Carolina Division of Water Quality. ONWASA has begun cleanup operations including removal of all accessible sewer from the area and will follow all State requirements regarding further cleanup, sampling, and notifications.
