ONWASA has scheduled smoke testing for the sewer lines from 301 Kinston HWY to 708 Kinston HWY including Bostic Road and Trott Road in the Richlands area on May 6, 2021 and May 7, 2021 from 7:30 AM until 3:30 PM each day. The purpose of this smoke testing is to locate any breaks or defects in the wastewater collections system, so they can be addressed and fixed properly.
ONWASA recommends customers in the areas of smoke testing run water in every bath and sink drain for at least 1 minute on each morning the smoke testing will take place. This will ensure the drain traps are full to avoid smoke entering the home. If smoke exits through the roof vent, everything is working properly.
The Smoke is:
NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING HAS A SLIGHT ODOR, WHITE
TO GRAY IN COLOR AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD.
You do not have to be at home during the testing. It will be normal to see smoke coming from rooftop vent stacks, manholes or sewer openings. If you see smoke in your home from this testing, you will need to contact a plumber as that will be an indication of a sewer line leak in your home. ONWASA personnel will be on-site in the areas of smoke testing to address any concerns.
If you have questions or concerns, please call 910-455-0722.
