Although many ONWASA facilities are still running on generator power, crews have been successful in restoring water production to 90% of normal levels. Water storage in elevated tanks and ground tanks is back to approximately 80% of normal levels.
ONWASA crews are still working dozens of breaks along the 1,100 miles of water mains within the county. Workers have succeeded in isolating many breaks to repair the lines. Staff has collected water samples and ONWASA’s internal laboratory has finished testing them for bacteriological contamination. All samples taken have come back safe and clean.
ONWASA is therefore able to lift the boil water advisory for all areas except for the Town of North Topsail Beach, ONWASA customers in Surf City, and customers from 1771 HWY 172 to HWY 17 to include Virginia Lane and Oyster Landing Subdivision. Apart from these specific areas, water is safe to drink and treating or boiling the water is no longer advised.
ONWASA is proud of our utility workers that continue working around the clock to complete the enormous recovery effort.
